March 21st, 2016 - Settling in at Aeropuerto 2

My Dear Friends and Family,

Well I'm gettin' pretty darn good at getting adjusted quickly and I'm already in love with Tarija here in Bolivia. I still miss Vallegrande like crazy and am worried where I'll get sent next, but otherwise it's all good.

My companion and I are getting along better and I'm becoming more obedient and punctual. (Probly my biggest trial here in the mission.... sticking to every part of the missionary schedule). The weather here is a little hotter, up in the 80s, but it's nothing in comparison to what I've been through in Santa Cruz so whatev. :) I'm excited to explore a lot and hope I can fit a lot in despite how busy P-Days can get. Our area is MASSIVE.... luckily a member cuts our hair free and another washes our clothes for real cheap because we have to spend a lot of money on taxis haha.

I'm starting to feel like an old missionary.... really weird experience that you kind of have to be a missionary to understand, but I LOVE talking to the younger missionaries and relating to them so well as to how I've felt in the mish and see how much I've grown. The internet is way slow today so you'll have to forgive me, but you know I love and pray for you all and LOVE all of your emails and anything you send me.

In improving in my obedience a lot, especially singularity of mind, I haven't kept track of much of the things I've wanted to tell you all so I'll try to send some pics hur right quick. :j Unfortunately the past couple weeks seemed to have lurched by a bit slow, but I'm sure it'll pick up pretty quick here.

The big Tarija valley kinda reminds me of being in Utah a little, it's weird. Beautiful from our 3rd floor apartment.

Some funnies from this past week. My 2 latino companions I've had haven't been the nicest to the wildlife here and my comp, Elder Rojas tossed a little water on a dog this week and it came right by him and shook it all off all over him. XD The 8 year old son of one of our investigators this week gave us some water yesterday because my comp was thirsty and it was tap water which kinda makes a lot of missionaries sick so we both looked at each other knowing what each other was thinking. I asked the kid standing in the door of his gate ¡eh! ¿Que es eso? pointing behind him and when he looked I tossed my water over my shoulder and then he looked back and said "una pared.... ¿?" and then my comp said ¿y esta cosita alli? and the little kid turned around again and my comp tossed his water over his shoulder and it was a little windy so it partially soaked me in the process and I just lost it busting up and then coughing and almost dying hahaha.

Anyway we don't have anyone with a baptismal date right now but we're working like crazy with references and have a zone conference with president this Tuesday so more to come next week. Let me know your personal progress and if you need my prayers!

Love,

Elder Van Horne

The first tarantula I've seen...

When I got my first Cinnabon in over almost a year in the airport a lil bit ago. soooo goood..... it's weird.... after eating Bolivian food for so long, things from the U.S. just taste like pure heaven or even too sweet. The food here is basically the same as the rest of Bolivia.... soup with a few veggies, mystery meat, chicken, rice, potatoes. sometimes veggies.
